;-)

The problem with alcohols is they have too many different "common" names, and it gets confusing when you're looking for "alcohol".

Methanol, methyl alcohol, wood alcohol - CH3-OH.
The simplest alcohol, lowest boiling point, 64.6C, poison, ingesting can cause blindness or death. Added to ethanol to denature it. (i.e, make it undrinkable)- Colorless liquid with a characteristic, pungent odor detectable at 4 to 6000 ppm.

Ethanol, ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, alcohol 200 proof - CH3-CH2-OH.
The form of alcohol in all alcoholic drinks. Boiling point 78.3C (pure) Colorless liquid. Pleasant alcoholic odor detectable at 49 to 716 ppm. Government controlled to various degrees, depending on locality. Sold for various chemical purposes usually denatured with something like methanol to make it undrinkable. Locally, this is sold as "Rubbing Compound" at the pharmacy (95%ethanol, 5% methanol).

Isopropanol, isopropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol - CH3-CHOH-CH3.
Sold frequently as "Rubbing Alcohol" in 70% or 99% concentrations. Boiling point 82.4C Clear colorless liquid with strong odour.
