NAME's Soap Recipe
Mesa by Debbie Morris
This soap is meant to fit into the Zen theme since it makes me think about Arizona and meditating in the desert.
Base Ingredients
- 90% Olive oil
- 10% Castor oil
- 1/4 cup Annato
- Distilled Water
- NaOH [6% superfatted]
The annato was infused in 2 cups of the olive oil then blended with the remainder of the olive oil to create the shades I was looking for.
Additives
- Ultra iridescent cosmetic grade glitter
- Pink clay
- Red clay
The amount of clays used per batch were varied to get a shade I liked and not measured.
Scented with
- Peppermint essential oil
- Peru Balsam essential oil
- 5 fold orange essential oil
The percentages of eos were 40% Peppermint, 40% Peru Balsam and 20% 5 Fold Orange in the colored layers and 50% Peppermint 50% Peru Balsam in the white layer. I used approximately 30ml of essential oils per pound of soap.
Note/Method
This soap was made in 6 layers. I used two molds, each of which holds a soap recipe using three pounds of oils. I made 6 1 pound batches and split each batch between the two molds. The layers were made and poured one after the other, and a spatula was used to create some texture between the layers. The layers were colored with various amounts of either pink clay, red clay and/or from the annato within the olive oil.
The orange essential oil has significant color and was left out of the lighter colored layers. I have absolutely no idea why the white layer developed such a large amount of soda ash.
I added some ultrafine glitter to the soap surface after cutting and aging the soap. It was simply rubbed onto the exterior of the "ashy" light pink layer as an afterthought - minimal amount used.
