NAME's Soap Recipe
Zen Earth by Geri Burgert
My interpretation of Zen is that enlightenment can be achieved by emptying the self of individuality and selfish needs.
In this way we can become one with the true universe. I see the comfrey plant as a "true universal" symbol of the eternal
life force beneath the surface beauty of the natural world. It is not an especially pretty plant and its leaves are coarse
and uninviting. But its taproot can grow up to six feet deep and the plant contains an extremely useful medicinal
constituent (allantoin). In the late fall comfrey's leaves completely disintegrate and enrich the soil with nitrogen.
And so this rather ugly plant seems to me to be more "real" than the delicate (and useless) plants my neighbors prefer
for their yards---not strikingly lovely or rare, but very much a product of Nature.
The other additives in Zen Earth soap are meant to enhance comfrey's skin-loving qualities: rosemary, lavender, nettle,
aloe, and so forth.
Base Ingredients
- 29.70 oz Olive oil* (42.43%)
- 10.65 oz Palm Kernal oil (15.23%)
- 10.65 oz Coconut oil (15.23%)
- 5.34 oz Babassu oil (7.64%)
- 5.32 oz Castor oil (7.61%)
- 5.32 oz Shea Butter (7.61%)
- 2.97 oz Hemp oil (4.24%)
- 26 oz Herbal* infused Aloe Juice
- 9.77 oz NaOH (7% superfat)
- 2.10 oz NaL
- Silk fibers, large pinch
Scented with
- 1.40 oz Lavender 40/42 essential oil
- 0.90 oz Lemongrass essential oil
- 0.50 oz Clary Sage essential
Notes
*Olive Oil: Olive oil was infused with whole comfrey leaves and then pulverized into a slurry.
*Herbal: The Aloe juice infusion was made with nettle, sage, rosemary and lavender herbs.
The volume is undiscounted.
The silk fibers, of course, were added to the lye water, and when this cooled, then the NaL (sodium lactate) was added.
