NAME's Soap Recipe
ZAZEN by Gill Davies
Having some interest in Buddhism I decided to go with the Zen Soap Theme.
Name:
The fundamental practice in Zen is meditation called Zazen, which is a Japanese word that literally means "
sitting zen" or "sitting concentration." Zazen is the practice of awareness,
of bringing your attention, or concentration, to the present moment. So I have named this soap ZAZEN.
Base Ingredients
- 875 g Olive Pomace (35%)
- 500 g Coconut oil (20%)
- 450 g Palm oil (18%)
- 275 g Sunflower oil (11%)
- 250 g Rice Bran oil (10%)
- 75 g Cocoa Butter (3%)
- 50 g Castor oil (2%)
- 25 g Macadamia Nut oil [added at trace] (1%)
- 825 g Water [infused with Rooibos tea]
- 345 g NaOH (5% superfat)
Scented with Essential oils of
- Frankincense
- Vetiver
- Palmarosa
- Patchouli
- Rosemary
- Lemon
I tried to produce a well balanced soap with a slightly Eastern scent. I included Frankincense as this has been used in meditation and other spiritual practices for centuries. It is said to invoke single-pointed concentration and to allow the spirit to soar!
Colour
The colour was achieved by making a Rooibos tea infusion with the water and using this for the lye solution.
