NAME's Soap Recipe
Zensation Soap by Helen Brosche
I did a bit of research and discovered that the circle is one of the most sacred symbols of Zen:
"The enso ('circle') is one of the deepest symbols in Japanese Zen.
The enso is the revelation of a world of the spirit without beginning and end.
The Zen circle of enlightenment reflects that transforming experience -
perfectly empty yet completely full, infinite, shining brightly like the moon-mind of enlightenment".
(Taken from the Art of Zen Education Resource of the National Gallery of Victoria.)
Hence the decision to make round soaps.
Base Ingredients
- 710 g Coconut oil
- 500 g Almond oil
- 355 g Palm oil
- 330 g Grapeseed oil
- 305 g Cocoa Butter
- 135 g Rice Bran oil
- 778 g Water
- 335 g NaOH [5% superfat]
At trace and scented with
- 10mls - blend of Bergamot (non photo toxic) and Aniseed China Star essential oils
- 1/2 cup of rice flour
Remarks
I decided to use both rice bran oil and rice flour as my Asian "zen" influences.
I hope that the rice flour adds a slight exfoliating effect without being too harsh (I haven't had a
chance to try it out myself yet!).
I discovered after unmoulding and cutting my soaps that an interesting thing had happened:
a different colour/texture core emerged in the soap making; it look like a circle within a circle.
