Tsukubai Soap by Magdalena Berg

Magda's Tsukubai Soap Recipe

Tsukubai is the Japanese name for the water bowl which the host uses to wash his/her hands during a formal Japanese tea ceremony. The tea ceremony is said to capture the spirit of Zen.

This all sounds lovely but I recommend this soap be placed on a dish outside while having a BBQ - it'll be great for keeping away the flies and mozzies, I hope. Then it'll at least be soap that works!

Base Ingredients

  • 760 g Canola oil (38.00%)
  • 640 g Coconut oil (32.00%)
  • 310 g Rice Bran oil (13.50%)
  • 150 g Shea Butter (7.50%)
  • 100 g Castor oil (5.00%)
  •   40 g Apricot Kernel oil (2.00%)
  • 500 ml Water
  • 285.77 g NaOH (5.00% superfat)
  • Raw Organic Silk Fibres, large pinch

Scented with

  • 17 ml ginger essential oil
  •   9 ml lemon-scented eucalyptus essential oil (yes only 9ml in 2kg! So strong!)

Additive

  • Japanese Green Tea powder

At trace

  • 40 ml Glycerine
  • the Apricot Kernel oil listed above
