Ann's Soap Recipe
Ann's Dinner Party Soap
Ann Gibson - Ann.Gibson bluescopesteel. com
There were two inspirations for the choice of this soap:
Firstly, the principle that you never try a new recipe when you are having a dinner party. Likewise, I think it is better to stick to a tried and true recipe when taking part in a soap swap (wise words from the keyboard of a novice). With this in mind I have made my Lavender and Patchouli Soap.
Lavender and Patchouli soap is inspired by the thought of what a handmade soap should be. Although it has now become an everyday necessity for me, there was a time when a handmade soap was a luxury item. To me it conjured up ideas of large, imperfect shaped chunks of soft-coloured, pure, gentle soap, with a creamy, bubbly lather and the musky yet floral smell of self-indulgence. It leaves the mind and body feeling pampered and cared for.
These are the feelings that inspired me to make this soap when my addiction first started, and I still feel the same when I use it.
Here is the recipe:
- 1000g Olive oil (100g of this at trace)
- 600g Palm oil
- 400g Palm Kernel oil
- 200g Castor oil (10g of this at trace with essential oils)
- 298g NaOH
- 570g water
- 20ml lavender eo
- 20ml patchouli eo
- 20ml beetroot oil soluble colour in a subtle swirl. This looks raspberry coloured when it goes in but comes out a dark beige.
