Debbie's Soap Recipe
Debbie's Woodland Walk Soap
My inspiration for this soap comes from my wonderful granddaughter Kahlista. She is 2 and interested in everything. She loves to smell things, including Grandma's interesting bottles, herbs in the garden, spices in the cupboard. "Smells good, Grandma," or "Mmmm, lavender." We go for walks in the woods and she feels the bark and smells the leaves and talks about everything. So this Woodland Walk Soap reflects Kahlista's excitement about everything in the world.
Recipe
Using the Soozcorner soap calculator for 5 lbs oils at 6% superfat
- Olive Oil 72 oz (90%)
- Castor Oil 6.4oz (8%)
- Beeswax (from a local beekeeper) 0.8oz (1%)
- Avocado Butter 0.8oz (1%)
- Water 30.4oz (distilled)
- Lye 10.1oz
I mixed at about 120, then put the soap in the oven at trace at about 170. This is where things get imprecise. There was a (predictable) volcano since I was not paying close attention and started warm and I lost about 1 ½ lb on the floor of the oven. The floor of the oven is now cleaner than it has been in a while.
So, once the soap was gelled, I allowed it to cool for about 10 minutes, then stirred in 4 oz of essential oils Kahlista enjoys smelling, previously mixed (including Cedarwood Virginia, Pine Needle, Palmarosa, Rosewood, Rosemary, Lavendin, Sandalwood, Myrrh, Frankincense), along with parsley flakes and Myrrh powder. The resulting soap mixture was glopped into the molds and cooled.
