6th International Soap Swap
Denise's Soap Recipe
Denise's POG Soap
My inspiration for our international soap swap comes from a deep love of Hawaii. There, they have a delicious juice called POG, which is a combination of Pineapple, Orange and Guava juices. We have begun to see this juice in our local stores of WA state, USA.
I decided to play with a few ideas, lumping them into one. Thankfully, the recipe came out, or I’d be ‘up the creek!’ I only wish I could have perfected the weight to be right at 1.7 oz per bar…mine were between 1.2 and 1.5, before wrapping.
This recipe includes:
- 50.17% Rice Bran Oil
- 21.4 % Coconut Oil
- 21.4% PKO
- 5 % Cocoa Butter
- 2 % Castor Oil
- 2 oz Orange EO
- 1 oz Tropical FO
- 1 oz Yellow Jojoba Spheres
- 3T. Coconut Milk Powder
When mixing my lye with water, I only used 1/2 the amount of water. After the solution cooled, I added in the other water half, substituting with cold, pure pineapple juice. To that, I stirred in the jojoba spheres. This was my first time working with spheres. The difference I saw in the texture of the soap is that it seemed to harden a little faster, as it would with beeswax.
I mixed the Orange EO and tropical FO (using as little chemical FO as possible, but enough to brace the orange and keep it strong), with the Coconut Milk Powder, creating a ‘slurry.’
Once the little ice cube-shaped soaps were cut, I used a brown yarn to wrap them in, making them look like little cargo boxes. I hope you all enjoy!
