Kelly's Arizona Desert Soap

For the Sixth Big Annual Soap Gifting, I chose to use Hannah's Eczema soap recipe with a tiny difference.

The inspiration for this soap creation is a Native American lady named Nina - my friend. She is a Mexican/Apache (maybe quite possibly Cheyenne - her dad was a bit nomadic.) I thought of her and this mixture is the result! I call it: Arizona Desert Soap. Nina smelled it and said it was a soap for bathing with - not showering cos it's very meditative. Maybe you might like to run the bath, light some candles, put some nice music on and enjoy using my soap gift :)

I made a batch using

  • 3700g Olive oil
  • 135g Cocoa butter
  • 67g Shea butter
  • 185g Castor oil
  • 100g Wheatgerm oil added at trace
  • 525g lye
  • 1000g Aloe juice (it is after all, desert soap!)
  • 255g Water

Now I took 2600g of my soap base ( I was makin' another batch with a different fragrance with the other half) I added ground mustard seeds, 6 cardomon pods and 1 Tbspn coriander seeds also ground up, a smidge of orris root powder, small spoon of coffee grounds, 1 Tbspn of ground mandarin/orange peel (dried) and 2 dried White Sage leaves, finely chopped. I forgot that I normally make this soap in a smaller batch so should've doubled the amount of seeds 'n' stuff.

I also added 1 Tbspn Australian Active Clay and 1 and 1/2 Tbspns Red Clay. About 100g of strong blended coffee (made with very hot water and 3 dessert spoons of coffee.)

I had allsorts of trouble with this soap! So I ended up HPing it and had to add 94g of beeswax to rescue it cos it separates. Next time I will add this at the beginning when I melt my Cocoa and SheaButters. When it was finally cooked *rolls her eyes heavenward cos it was a very tryyyyying day that day* I added 20ml frankincense, 16ml cardamon, 4ml patchouli, 16ml juniper, 2ml coriander, 34 drops amber and 40 drops may chang.

I then moulded it and cut it up very unevenly so it looked like rough-hewn, handcrafted soap.
