Kerry's Calendula Frenzy Soap

soap photo

Created by Kezza's Kreations © 2004

The inspiration for my soap came from the love of gardening, which I have done over many years. I particularly love growing herbs, flowers and of course vegetables. Because my Calendulas were in full bloom I thought it would be lovely to use them in this soap swap recipe. Not to mention the wonderful healing properties of Calendula.

Grown without chemicals, and harvested (hand picked by me) when they were a fantastic bright golden orange.

They dried naturally in no time at all. I infused some into Olive Oil for 2-3 months and all this infusion was used in this soap blend including the petals. I did heat the solid oils first but keep it to a low heat which never went over 36 degrees. My liquid was made up from herbal tea bags of a floral kind. This turned the lye water orange. But because I wanted a yellow soap this was not a problem.

For a strong yellow appearance I used the liquid of 5 X 6mg capsules of Beta Carotene, which I mixed into my Avocado, Apricot and Wheat germ oil and added this combination at light trace so as not to lose the oils wonderful properties.

At full trace I added the EO's plus extra Calendula dried petals.

Lastly I poured my soap, covered and waited to cut up.

The petals in the photo are from the exact bush that the soap was made from.

Remember to run any recipe through a lye calculator to be sure of your correct measures.
