Nancy's Soap Recipe
Nancy's Lime in deCoconut
- 100% coconut oil
- Lye at 15%
Quite simple, eh? My mother-in-law had told me about a soap she used to get
for her make-up removal. She said it was made of 100% coconut oil! What!
that's impossible, I said. No, she was sure it was 100% coconut oil.
So-o-o, hence the reason for making this soap. I had some batches climb out
of the mold before I came to the conclusion that the FA chains required
something different. I tried the lye at 10% and still was not satisfied.
15% is perfect. I think I had said onlist that I made it at 13% but was
mistaken. My memory was jogged when Marina stated she made it at 15%. (Why
didn't I think to ask the Wise Ones before I wasted oils I'll never know.) I knew that I could market it unscented but there would be some that would
just have to have a scent. And, as I do not use anything but essential
oils, it could not be coconut scent....sigh....what to do. Well, then I
thought of the Harry Nilsson song, "Coconut Song", where "Brother bought a
coconut, he bought it for a dime, His sister had another one, she paid it
for a lime. She put the lime in de coconut and drank it all up..." It's a
cute song and a lot of people will remember it. So there lies the
inspiration for the name. Ta-da-a-a!
