Mark's Pumpkin Pizzazz
Mark's Pumpkin Pizzazz
Recipe:
Coconut Oil 27%
Olive Oil 25%
Palm Oil 25%
Sweet Almond Oil 8%
Jojoba Oil 8%
Shea Butter 7%
This is a CP soap. Total weight: 3.5 kg, about 7.7 pounds.
At trace I added 4 oz. (about 124grams) of Pumpkin Spice FO from Sweetcakes.com. Color was
20 (.15 cc) scoops of yellow oxide and 2 scoops of red oxide. The specks of color are
dried pumpkin flakes, again from Sweetcakes. I prepared about 15% of the recipe
separately, with only the three main fixed oils and no color, etc., layering the
whipped cream topping on about 30 minutes after pouring the base.
Comments:
This is the first time Ive made this recipe, so I cant say its my
favorite, lol! But since Ive made less than a dozen batches of soap so far, and
havent repeated any of them, I guess I dont have a favorite yet!! The idea for
this started out as carrot cake with white icing; I discussed my idea on Soap Natch and
got some good advice and encouragement. I couldnt decide exactly how to fragrance a
carrot cake and I was afraid that my bits of orange soap would melt when I stirred it into
the main batch, so I switched to a pumpkin pie recipe.
Here in the USA, Thanksgiving is a huge holiday and pumpkin pie is the quintessential
dessert. Nothing else comes close. Thanksgiving is November 27 this year, so this is a
good time to make it, although at some other time of year Id just call it a spice
cake or something.
Im pleased with the look, feel, and smell of this soap. From my limited experience,
I think it will be a well performing soap, but it should be with the sweet almond, jojoba,
and shea (which I bought through the Soap Natch pre-buy through Anne Morgan).
Personal Notes:
Ive enjoyed cooking for a good while (I enjoy reading recipes in magazines!) and
somehow I happened upon Susan Cavitch Millers books on soaps. I read them both
through and was fascinated by the process before I had ever eyed a jug of olive oil for
anything other than a cooking ingredient. And
there are a lot of similarities between
making a batch of soap and a batch of chocolate chip cookies, it seems. Besides that,
Ive always had a green streak and have never liked reading the
ingredients lists on soaps, shampoos, etc. Making soap out of such good ingredients just
has a lot of appeal to me, and
its a lot of fun! I also really enjoy
participating as a Soap Naturally member. There are lots of good people from around the
world who really seem to enjoy making soap and helping others who share their addiction.
Im very pleased to be able to participate in ISS5, too. I hope everyone enjoys my
soap. Im looking forward to receiving soaps from all over the world. How neat can
one thing be?!
